Azzona Drainage Contractors is an independent, Australian-owned civil construction company that's built a strong reputation based on service and integrity. They have constructed millions of kilometres of sewer mains and sewer pipes for the major water authorities of the northern and western suburbs of Melbourne. The company has 45 employees and 20 vehicles/trucks with Navman Wireless Tracking installed.
In 2008, Azzona decided to purchase a vehicle tracking system in order to have more control of their vehicles from a management point of view. They wanted to know where their trucks were, where they were going and how much time they were spending on site.
A System That's Been Easy to Use and Readily Accepted

Sebastian Galizia, Azzona's Quality Engineer, says, "We have installed the OnlineAVL2 on our computers in our office. One of the first things Mr Galizia noticed after installing Navman Wireless was a reduction in overtime claims. Because Navman Wireless shows exactly when a truck arrives and then leaves a site, timesheets have become much more accurate, saving Azzona approximately $2,000 per week across the fleet.

Since Mr Galizia can see all vehicles activity all the time and better schedules jobs, the team is accomplishing more in a day. He explains, "When the foreman's on site, everyone works harder. Our jobs are quoted on per meter of pipe laid and already we're seeing 2 month jobs taking 2-3 days less time than before. Extend those savings over a year and that equals approximately $40,000."

"The guys simply aren't driving as much to get to sites and they're not using their vehicles as often in the weekends and evenings. We've set Geofences around specific sites so we know when they enter and leave jobs. He believes that to date, Azzona has saved approximately $2000 per month in fuel costs.
Easier job scheduling, fewer phone calls
Mr Galizia schedules jobs on a daily and weekly basis. With Navman Wireless, he can send the closest vehicle to any site. "Now that I know exactly how long it takes a truck to get from A to B, I can calculate travel time more accurately. I don't have to make lots of phone calls to find out where the guys are and they can just get on with their work," he says.
Improved vehicle maintenance means reduced repair costs
Mr Galizia has been impressed with the various Navman Wireless features and reports he can access. He utilises the speed report, checks time on site, sets Geofences and uses the vehicle maintenance functionality. He explains, "I'm not at my desk all the time so I appreciate that the system sends me an email when a vehicles enters a Geofenced area. I've also recorded each truck's maintenance requirements. Each time a truck travels 10,000 kms, Navman Wireless emails me so I can book the service. We used to miss due dates all the time. Now we're saving money on repair costs."
